August 20 Update
Our church building is able to be open for in-person worship, Preschool, Bible studies and groups because we have made safety and health a priority. Please remember masks are required in all common areas of the church. Not only is this a current State mandate, it is an act of love. Help keep our staff healthy and our doors open by wearing a mask. Church staff and volunteers are thrilled to see people back in the building and we appreciate everyone wearing a mask, keeping their distance and using hand sanitizer.
Have you marked your calendar for Outdoor Worship on August 30th at 10am? Bring your lawn chairs and come celebrate as the gospel group Witness leads us in worship. Invite your family, friends and neighbors to this meaningful, relaxing time of worship and fellowship. Be sure to make your reservation by August 27 by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 317-359-9651with your name and phone number. We are looking for 5 more volunteers to help welcome visitors, direct traffic, distribute chairs and clean up. Volunteers need to arrive at 9:15am and plan to stay a little after service. If you are interested please contact Tonya Davis at email@example.com or 317-359-9651.
Ken Simpson will celebrate his 80th birthday on August 30! Due to COVID, his family is not comfortable hosting a get together with all his friends, so they are asking us to shower him with birthday cards mailed to 11462 Creekwood Circle, Indianapolis, IN 46239.
We continue to be blessed by and grateful for the National Guard’s service at the Food Pantry. As we express our gratitude through the hospitality of meals and snacks, we are still in need of a few meal hosts from 11am-2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 22 through October 13. According to previous meal hosts, we make it “super easy”. Our church staff places the meal orders. Meal hosts will pick up food from area restaurants, then serve the National Guard members and clean up after the meal - which is also pretty easy because these soldiers are trained to clean up after themselves. Contact Lynda Preston at 317-359-9651 or firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions and to sign up to host a meal. Also needed are lots of Sports Drinks (Gatorade, Powerade, etc). You may deliver your donations to the church Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm. If you order online you may have your donation delivered directly to the church. You may also make a monetary donation, designated “Helping the Helpers” for the purchase of snacks and meals.
The Preschool is in need of gently used little girls and boys short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, shorts, and pants in sizes 2T through 6. Also needed are brand new socks and underwear in sizes 2T through 6. There is a tub in the lobby for your donations. You may contact Preschool Director Shannon Schwoebel at email@example.com or 317-359-9651, ext. 140 with any questions.
You are invited to be involved in Old Bethel’s College Connect Ministry. At their baptism, we promise children we will grow and nurture them in the faith; that we will encourage and pray for them. College students make life-altering decisions. They discern a career and a passion. They discern who God has created them to be. Some discern who they will marry. All of them decide if church (the gathered, intergenerational, worshipping community) is still relevant. Through Old Bethel’s College Connect Ministry, our prayer is that students attending school, both locally and away from home, are encouraged and prayed for as they are making crucial life decisions. We pray they stay connected to Jesus while they are away and we pray for all the major life decisions they are discerning. Students do not need a church to wave goodbye to them. They need a church that will cheer them on and faithfully pray for them and a church that will continue to give them resources to grow in their faith. If you are willing to send a thinking-of-you/encouragement card or letter to ONE student ONE time during the 2020-21 school year, please contact Lynda Preston at firstname.lastname@example.org or 317-359-9651, by August 31.
We continue to collect items for our community partners at Pleasant Run Elementary School. The school is in need of very specific items – pencils, small individual pencil sharpeners, erasers, pencil boxes or bags, kid size scissors, and glue sticks. Through September, we are collecting these items only. There is a tub in the lobby for your donations. You may contact Nancy Bellinger at 317-375-0711 or email@example.com with any questions.
Reservations remain necessary for in-person Sunday worship. Currently, you may make worship reservations through the month of September (for the entire month or week-by-week) by calling the church office at 317-359-9651 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
