CHILDREN & YOUTH MINISTRIES COORDINATOR

REPORTS TO: Associate Pastor of Outreach & Discipleship, Community Partnerships Director

SALARY/BENEFITS: Part Time, Salaried (20-25 hours, $17,500 per year), No Benefits

OVERVIEW: The Children and Youth Ministries Coordinator is an extension of Old Bethel UMC’s outreach and discipleship activities, coordinating and executing programming to further the faith development of children (ages 0-12) and youth (ages 13-18).

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

With strategic guidance and insights from the Associate Pastor and Community Partnerships Director, this role will develop and execute activities/experiences for children and youth

Examples include:

Youth Group/Combined Far Eastside UMC Youth Group Collective

Confirmation

Easter Egg Hunt

Vacation Bible School (VBS)

Children’s Christmas Programming

Bike Safety Day

Sunday Children’s Message/Children’s Church

Youth Missions Trips

This role will continually recruit and manage volunteers to help execute activities/experiences for children and youth, as well as coordinating with church leadership to ensure Safe Sanctuary policies and procedures to ensure the safety of children and youth are maintained

This includes volunteers for:

On-site or off-site children and youth activities

Coverage of nursery care for Sunday services and church-wide activities

Promote and communicate children and youth activities through Old Bethel and external marketing channels

Channels include but are not limited to:

Social Media

weekly/monthly Old Bethel UMC e-newsletters or bulletins

Local parent networks

Provide regular updates to Old Bethel staff, congregation, parents, and community partners when necessary outlining progress made amongst children and youth ministries and identifying opportunities to further engage

SUCCESS FACTORS:

A highly organized individual with clear and consistent communication skills

The ability to create relationships based on mutual respect, no matter the background or characteristics of a child, young adult, volunteer, or community member

A mentality for faith development as a team sport that creates a pathway for children, youth, and their families to establish a relationship with God

The aforementioned responsibilities represent the minimum requirements of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or training in children/youth development

Knowledge of implementation of faith-based curriculums a plus

A love of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and the drive to share this love with others

A love for kids and an approachable attitude to meet people where they are

Proficient in technology skills, including but not limited to:

Google Suite (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, etc.)

Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)

Social Media Platforms (Facebook, Instagram)

Event registration and database systems (ex. Eventbrite)

Experience in Realm a plus

Email marketing systems (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, etc.)

Volunteer recruitment and management experience a plus
